Final Cut Experiments
In this video I have learnt skills about colour masking. I have used final cut to edit a short section of film and change the colours of Reece's clothing and made the background black and white.
Music Video Analysis
This is my analysis of a video by a new upcoming artist Natalie Prass. It is is a song called Bird Of Prey. The video is a black and white video showing the narrative of them rehearsing the song and also some performance as her band play instruments in time with the music.
This is the establishing shot in the video. It shows Natalie the singer sat on the floor with her headphones on holding a microphone connoting that she is rehearsing and listening to the song. She is sat in a recording studio and this shows how the video will be the story of her and her band practicing recording the song. Her name is then shown in front of her in large capital bold letters in an easy to read font. The background is quite dark so having her name in large white lettering makes it stand out lowing the audience to know who this new not well known artist is.
The shot then cuts to a medium shot of Natalie stood smiling next to the recording microphone. The name of the song is shown in front of her once again shown in large white lettering. The typography is all very plain, big and easy for the viewer to read. The cut to this shot is edited on the beat. The music cuts from Natalie's name to the name of the song as the beat kicks in.
The next sequence of shots focuses on showing the audience the rest of the band, showing how its more than just Natalie who's involved in the making of the video. The woman playing the harp is showing a performance part of the video as she plays her harp in time with the music. Her band are shown talking and practicing connoting more of a narrative storyline than a performance.
This next shot shows Natalie and another band member sat laughing and having a drink. This is a narrative part of the video. This narrative part is contradicting as it has no relationship to the lyrics that are being sung.
The next sequence of shots consists of shots of Natalie and her band members practicing and performing. The video is edited on the beat with the shot cutting to the next one as the word "you" is sung. This section of the song is illustrative as there is a link between the music and the visuals.
This next shot comes as the pace and beat of the music changes. It is a slower panning shot across the music sheets. This shot again connotes the idea of the band practicing and rehearsing there song which is what the narrative of this video is mainly about.
